Senior Data Scientist - Milan - Euler Hermes

JOB DESCRIPTION AND PROFILE: Euler Hermes – Senior Data Scientist specialist



Main tasks: 

The Senior Data Scientist will report directly to the Regional Risk Information Claims & Collections Director, functionally to the Regional Head of Operation & Chief Digital Officer and his/her principal mission will be:

#1 – Lead Regional data experiments (data, models, partners)

  • Research, develop, implement, measure and take ownership of predictive models. Independently perform statistical analyses and "deep dives" into the data. Present and discuss solutions as an expert with business partners
  • Lead experimental design, statistical modelling and build a Regional ecosystem on identifying new sets of data or testing new promising approach
  • Serve as analytical project lead to spearhead innovative, quantitative and advanced analytical solutions to complex business problems by utilizing a diverse set of traditional and modern predictive modelling, pattern recognition and machine learning approaches.

 #2 – Implement, produce and monitor models

  • Implement, in coordination with the Group Data Lab, new machine learning applications embedded into operational processes while defining the best solution accordingly to Regional specificities and requirements
  • Develop specific tools, processes and reporting or data visualizations to deliver a high level of service of the solution implemented and measure their impacts on business

#3 – Be the Group Data Lab referent

  • Raise subjects for decision
  • Animate a portfolio of initiatives which underlie the Regional strategy, share progress on the running projects
  • Generate reports, annotated code, and other projects artifacts to document, archive, and communicate work and outcomes
  • Share learnings and discuss findings with team members, other Regional Data Labs and the Group Data Lab
  • Set up and manage a team of data scientists guiding and mentoring one junior team member in data science best practices.
  • Ensure that the best practices and tools defined by the Group Data Lab are well shared and applied

 We are looking for candidates who demonstrates strong achievements in data science but also personal engagement in their doings

Knowledge/Experience required:

  • 2-3 years’ successful track record in implementing Python or R machine learning algorithms. Please do not apply if the requirement is not present
  • 3-5 years max of work experience
  • Being able to work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment
  • Having the ability to query databases and perform statistical analysis
  • Develop mindset and capabilities (ability to build algorithms, but also to administrate servers)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a “STEM” major (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
  • Fluent English spoken and written mandatory, Italian recommended
  • Developers and Mathematical approach
  • Knowledge of common data sources and query languages (esp. SQL, Hive, Pig)
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of applied analytics, descriptive statistics, and predictive analytics on large datasets embedded into operational processes
  • Knowledge / experience with Spark is a plus
  • Demonstrated skills at data cleansing, data quality assessment, and using analytics for data assessment
  • Able to advice senior management in clear language about the implications of their work for the organization
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit, Works autonomously

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Additional knowledge/experience preferred:

  • Any other languages are a plus
  • International experience
